Former cricketer and TMC MP Yusuf Pathan’s father-in-law among three arrested

Assault on a local resident using bamboo sticks and a bat

Mumbai – Police have arrested the father-in-law and brother-in-law of former Indian cricketer and Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan in connection with an assault case in the Byculla area. The action was taken after examining CCTV footage related to the incident.

1.  A local resident, Yusuf Khan, was driving home when his vehicle passed through a puddle, causing water to splash onto Shoaib Khan. Yusuf Khan reportedly stepped out of the vehicle and apologised; however, an enraged Shoaib Khan allegedly abused him, smashed the vehicle’s windows with a bamboo stick, and physically assaulted him.

2.   Following this, Yusuf Khan, along with his family, was on his way to the police station to lodge a complaint. En route, they encountered Khalid Khan, identified as Yusuf Pathan’s father-in-law. Khalid Khan, along with his son Umarshad Khan, Shoaib Khan, and Shahbaz Pathan, allegedly attacked Yusuf Khan and his relatives using bamboo sticks and a bat, resulting in serious injuries.

3.   A complaint has been registered in the matter. The Byculla Police have arrested Khalid Khan, Umarshad Khan, and Shoaib Khan, while Shahbaz Pathan is absconding. The arrested accused were produced before the court and have been remanded to judicial custody until 2 May.

Editorial Perspective

  • This incident can be seen as indicative of a breakdown of law and order, raising concerns about the spread of such lawlessness beyond regional boundaries.
  • It is noteworthy that media outlets which frequently engage in debates criticising Hindus often do not organise discussions on incidents of this nature.
