Five conductors suspended

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – It was earlier reported that at Chikkmagaluru, a bus conductor had pocketed money from a male passenger by giving him a free ticket meant for a woman passenger under the Government’s ‘Shakti’ scheme. Now, five bus conductors have been suspended by BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) by similarly heating BMTC by issuing tickets to male passengers which were meant for female passengers for free. Suryanarayan, Bommalingesh, Brijesh Babu, Mohan and N Prakash are the names of the suspended conductors. It was observed during the investigations that the bus conductors were asking those male passengers, who had no knowledge of Kannada, to pay the fare by giving their personal QR codes and were issuing tickets under ‘Shakti’ scheme. Thus, the bus conductors earned a lot of money.
What is ‘Shakti’ scheme
Karnataka Government has launched a scheme under which the female passengers can travel for free in the buses operated by the Government. It is one of the five guarantees offered by the Government since 11.06.2023. This scheme is applicable to all the State-level general buses offered by all State-level transport companies.
