Pakistan government outraged over tribute to Asha Bhosale !

Notice issued to Pakistani news channel ‘Geo News Urdu’

Asha Bhosle

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Following the demise of the legendary singer Asha Bhosale, the Pakistan Government has objected to some Pakistani news channels broadcasting tribute programmes about her. The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (the government body regulating news channels in Pakistan) has issued a ‘show cause notice’ to ‘Geo News Urdu’. The channel had aired a detailed tribute to Asha Bhosale and broadcast her songs.

Opposing the stand of the Pakistan Government, Azhar Abbas, Managing Director of Geo News, stated that reviewing and presenting the work and contributions of a great artist upon their demise is a standard and established journalistic practice. Like knowledge, art too is a shared heritage of humanity and should not be confined within boundaries. Art and artists should not become victims during times of war and conflict.

Editorial Perspective

Where are the Indian actors now who routinely preach that art should be kept away from politics, and who lash out at devout Hindus while advocating for Pakistani actors to perform in India ?
