Pune IT companies to be inspected for atrocities against women

Informs Deputy Commissioner of Labour Nikhil Walke

Pune – A case of atrocities against women employees in an IT firm in Nashik has come to light. On this basis, the ‘Labour Commissionerate’ has now undertaken a verification campaign of companies in the IT sector. Under this campaign, a review of the committees for the prevention of atrocities against women in the companies, complaints and action taken on them will be conducted, informed Deputy Commissioner of Labour Nikhil Walke.

1. It will be verified if there are internal committees in the company offices in Pune to prevent such things from happening.

2. An inquiry will be conducted into what action was taken by the committees on the complaints of women employees and what measures were taken.

3. If any violation of rules is found in this verification, legal action will be taken against the concerned firms.

4. According to the ‘Protection, Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2013’, it is mandatory for all companies with 10 or more officers and employees to set up an internal grievance redressal committee.

Editorial Perspective

Should we say that the Labour Commissionerate woke up after the sexual exploitation and conversion cases in Nashik came to light ? The public should also be informed whether the Labour Commissionerate conducts such verifications regularly.
