I run my household because of Dawood Ibrahim: Ram Gopal Varma

Controversial statement by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma

Ram Gopal Varma and Dawood Ibrahim

Mumbai – Film director Ram Gopal Varma made a controversial statement saying, “I live because of Dawood Ibrahim. It is because of him that my household runs.” He made this remark in a recent interview on the Filmfare YouTube channel.

During the interview, Varma said, “I had dedicated my autobiography Guns and Thighs to Dawood Ibrahim, but the publishers removed his name. If Dawood Ibrahim had not existed, I would not have been able to make timeless films like Satya and Company. Then why shouldn’t I dedicate the book to him? My household runs due to him. I am probably the only person who never received threatening calls from criminals, because they liked Satya and Company a lot. They did not want to trouble me. In a way, I had become a close friend of theirs.”

Editorial Perspective

This statement by Ram Gopal Varma reveals where funding in the Bollywood industry may have come from. Because of this, the Hindu places of worship were often shown in a secondary or disrespectful manner in films, and such instances continue even today. There is a need for a thorough Police investigation into who all in the Hindi film industry may have received such funding.
