Mumbai High Court reprimands !

Mumbai – A woman who had retired from the Municipal Corporation’s education department filed a petition in the Mumbai High Court after she was not granted pension and other benefits as per the Seventh Pay Commission. While hearing the petition, the Mumbai High Court sharply reprimanded the Government, stating, “If ₹40 thousand crore can be spent on the Ladki Bahin scheme, then how is there no money to pay pensions ? If the State Government does not have funds to provide pensions and other benefits to teaching and non-teaching staff as per the Seventh Pay Commission, then the Ladki Bahin scheme should be discontinued.”
During the hearing, the advocate for the Municipal Corporation stated that the Corporation does not have the funds to provide pensions and other benefits as per the Seventh Pay Commission, as the State Government has not released the required funds.
The scheme had significantly benefited the Mahayuti in winning the Assembly elections. Due to this scheme, the Government exchequer is bearing an annual burden of ₹43,740 crore. Subsequently, during the verification process of beneficiaries, 71 lakh women were found ineligible for the scheme.
