Plot to attack three temples in Delhi

Arrested terrorist Shabbir reveals details during interrogation

New Delhi – Delhi Police recently arrested a terrorist associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, identified as Shabbir Ahmad. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed that he had planned major attacks on three prominent temples in Delhi: the Kalkaji Temple, the Lotus Temple, and the Chhatarpur Temple.

Reconnaissance videos sent to Pakistan

Shabbir Ahmad had conducted reconnaissance (surveillance) of these temples as well as crowded markets in Connaught Place. He reportedly sent videos of these locations to handlers based in Pakistan.

Investigations also revealed that Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), along with Lashkar-e-Taiba, is working to establish a new terror network in Bangladesh on the lines of The Resistance Front (TRF). For this purpose, recruitment of local youth is allegedly being carried out. Shabbir had reportedly stayed in Bangladesh for some time and became active again after political changes there. He had expanded his network from Delhi to southern India and West Bengal.

Resumed activities after release from prison

Shabbir Ahmad is also said to have links with TRF commander Sajjad Gul, on whom India’s National Investigation Agency has announced a reward. Both were previously arrested together in Kashmir in 2015. After being released, Sajjad fled to Pakistan and continued operations from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, while Shabbir remained in India and was prepared to carry out attacks. (This shows that instead of repeatedly detaining terrorists, they should be prosecuted through fast-track courts and given the strictest punishment. The government should make efforts to ensure capital punishment for the accused in this case too. – Editor)

Editorial Perspective

  • Jihadi terrorists plot attacks on Hindu temples, yet no Muslim organisations or religious leaders in India publicly condemn such acts.
  • The idea that “terrorists have no religion” is outdated! Terrorists do have a religion, and those carrying out attacks in India are Muslims.
