Ottawa (Canada) – Pro-Khalistan groups in Canada have threatened to hold demonstrations and a “Khalistan Zindabad” march outside two major Hindu temples on 5 April 2026: the Triveni Temple in Brampton and the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Surrey. They stated that when Hindus come to these temples for worship, they may have to hear slogans and could face pushing or scuffles. In response, the Hindu Canadian Foundation issued a statement saying that temples are sacred places of worship, not grounds for protests. “We will not bow down to threats,” the organisation said. It also warned law enforcement and security agencies across Canada to act against such elements, stating that failure to do so could erode the Hindu community’s trust in the Police and government.
Pro-Khalistan supporters have previously attempted to create disturbances outside temples in Canada.
Statement from the Hindu Canadian Foundation
1. This is not a peaceful protest but a deliberate attempt to provoke tensions. There is an effort to turn temples into political platforms. Earlier, on 3 November 2024, pro-Khalistan supporters allegedly attacked the Hindu Sabha Temple in broad daylight, using sticks against women, children, and the elderly who were peacefully worshipping. This was not an isolated incident. Multiple temples have been targeted, and devotees are being intimidated.
2. Temples are sacred spaces, not venues for protests or political activity. If any disturbance occurs this time, the community will not remain silent.
3. The Hindu community is an integral part of Canada. Hindus are peace-loving and believe in democracy, but enough is enough. The government must ensure their safety.
4. Canada’s Parliament has already passed the Bill C-9 (Combating Hate Act), which provides strict punishment for spreading hate, threats, or obstruction at places of worship. “Bubble zones” have already been established around temples in Brampton where protests are prohibited. Targeting worshippers is not protest, it is intimidation. Disrupting prayers is not free speech, it is coercion.
5. Pro-Khalistan supporters are attempting to silence the Hindu community. This is not just a Hindu issue but a threat to Canada’s law and order, security, and social harmony. Canada-based Khalistani extremists are becoming a serious internal security concern. Those inciting violence must be identified and held accountable.
