Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) – A young man named Sahil had been molesting a minor girl for the past three years. They complained six times against him to the police but in vain. Now, it has come to light that Sahil killed the victim’s paralysed father out of anger over her complaining again. When the victim was going to school, Sahil used to pester her to talk to her, said he wanted to marry her. When the victim refused, he started forcing her with threats that he would die. The victim stated in the police complaint that his sister was also supporting him in this. Sahil is currently absconding. The police have registered a case against Sahil and his family.

Police station chief Manvendra Singh said that on the complaint of the woman, a case was registered against Sahil, his mother Radha, sister Komal and brother Karan under the sections of attempt to murder. Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Srivastava suspended police officer Shubham Singh for negligence in this case.

Earlier, on 26 November last year, Sahil had shown a pistol to the victim and said that if she did not marry him, he would push her into the River Ganges. On 9 November, Sahil caught the victim and killed her. He dared to do so, the police took no action against him despite a complaint filed with them.

Editorial Perspective

The molester is as guilty of the murder as the concerned officers of the Kanpur police. What is wrong if the victim and her family demanded the death penalty for him from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ?
