Muslims hold Iftar gathering on a boat in the Ganga River; leftover bones thrown into the river

14 Muslims arrested

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh): An Iftar gathering was organized on a boat sailing on the Ganga River in Varanasi. Non-vegetarian food was served at the event, and it is alleged that leftovers, including bones, were thrown into the river afterward.

A video of the incident circulated on social media, leading to widespread anger and reactions. In this case, city president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Rajat Jaiswal, filed a complaint at the Kotwali police station alleging that Hindu religious sentiments had been hurt. Following this, the police conducted an investigation and arrested 14 Muslim youths.

The Varanasi Municipal Corporation also expressed strong objection to the incident. A public relations official stated that the act was highly objectionable. “There are clear guidelines to maintain the purity and sanctity of the Ganga River. As per these rules, any activity conducted on the ghats or in the middle of the river must take into account religious sentiments as well as standards of cleanliness.”

The administration further stated that stricter monitoring and regulations will be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future, ensuring that the sanctity of the Ganga River and public sentiments are not harmed.

Editorial Perspective

Such acts hurt Hindu religious sentiments; they occur because there is neither fear of society nor of the law.
