‘NCERT’ removes the wrong map of the ‘Maratha Empire’ from the Class VIII book

The map wrongly included Bikaner, Bundi and Jaisalmer

(NCERT – National Council of Educational Research and Training)

New Delhi – In the ‘NCERT’ class 8 sociology book ‘Samajachi Shodhayatra: Bharat aani tyapudhe Part-1’, while showing the expansion of the Maratha Empire, they had wrongly included the areas of Bikaner, Bundi and Jaisalmer. Chaitanya Raj Singh Bhati, the 44th Maharawal of Jaisalmer, was the first one to object to the map in August 2025. He had said that the map was an attempt to belittle the struggle and sovereignty of the Rajput kings. He had brought this to the notice of the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Other royal families of Rajasthan, BJP MP Mahima Kumari Mewar, MLA Vishwaraj Singh Mewar, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, and retired Brigadier Bhupesh Singh Hada from Bundi had also objected to the map as it was incorrect. Following these objections, NCERT removed the map from the book and assured that it would include a revised map in its next edition.
