Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh): On 27 February 2026, a deadly attack was carried out on the well-known “ex-Muslim” (someone who has left Islam) Salim Vastik in the Loni area. The attackers, Zeeshan (23) and Gulfam (42), were killed in a Police encounter.

Popular YouTuber Saleem Wastik, known for his public identification as an ‘ex-Muslim’ and appearances on television panels, was stabbed multiple times by two men in his home in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad last week, leaving him in a critical condition. A CCTV footage of the incident has emerged, showing the two assailants, identified as Zeeshan and his brother Gulfam, entering the YouTuber’s home and slashing him with a knife.

The assailants can be heard saying, “You are insulting our Prophet, you are insulting our Lord”. Saleem sustained serious injuries to his neck, abdomen and ear, officials said. A case was filed by Saleem’s son, Usman.

Both the accused, who were carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, were killed in two separate encounters with the Police. While Zeeshan was killed on 1 March, Gulfam died from his injuries on 3 March. Both were originally residents of Saidangali village in Amroha district, Uttar Pradesh, but had been living in Delhi for the past few years. However, according to the Police, the main conspirator behind the attack may be a Maulvi from Delhi as well as a person from Pakistan. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a statement, said, “Those who play with law and order will not be spared. There is no place for terror in Uttar Pradesh, and the law will take its course.”

Key details from the investigation:

1. Just before the attack on Vastik, a Pakistani YouTuber had publicly shared the address of Vastik’s office on his channel and had also issued a threat. After the incident, he even claimed responsibility. However, how Zeeshan and Gulfam came into contact with this YouTuber remains a question.

2. Information about a Telegram group named “Muslim Army Mehdi Moderator” was found on Zeeshan’s mobile phone. The group has more than 18,000 members. After the attack on Vastik, his blood-stained photographs were circulated in this group, suggesting that the attack was not due to personal enmity but part of ideological terrorism.

3. It is suspected that Zeeshan and Gulfam were given a large amount of money to carry out the attack. However, investigators are still trying to determine who paid them and whether the money was given in cash or online. Since both of them did not have PAN cards, tracing their bank accounts has also become challenging. Moreover, since both attackers are now dead, reaching the main conspirator has become more difficult.

4. Zeeshan was active on social media and had watched Salim Vastik’s videos, in which Vastik used to speak about certain practices within Islam. Zeeshan could not tolerate this and had fully planned the attack about 15 days in advance.

5. Sources also claim that the investigation is now pointing toward a Maulvi in Delhi, who was allegedly misleading young people through the internet.

Editorial Perspective

Those who constantly preach tolerance to Hindus and claim to be progressive will not dare to utter even a word against the attack on Salim Vastik that arose from religious fanaticism. They know that if they do so, they might face the same fate as Vastik. Therefore, their talk about freedom of expression is merely a hypocrisy, and their real objective is hatred toward Hindus.
