A Muslim mob storms a police station and vandalizes property !

Baseless allegation that Hindu youths attacked a Maulvi !

Bidar, Karnataka – In the historic town of Basavakalyan in the district, thousands of Muslims surrounded the Basavakalyan City Police Station, alleging that Hindu youths had attacked a Muslim maulvi. Demanding that the Hindus accused of attacking the maulvi (an Islamic religious leader) be immediately handed over to them, the crowd created massive chaos outside the police station. Suddenly, thousands from the mob stormed the police station premises. A heated verbal confrontation took place between the police and the crowd. During the clash, the mob vandalized property inside the police station. To bring the situation under control, the police had to resort to a mild baton charge.

Recognizing the seriousness of the incident, senior police officials, including the Inspector General of Police of the Northern Range and the Superintendent of Police of Bidar district, immediately reached Basavakalyan. Heavy police deployment has been placed across the city. The police have registered cases against a total of 49 Muslim youths under various sections for storming the police station and damaging government property.
