Former Prime Minister of Nepal K.P. Sharma Oli

Kathmandu (Nepal) – “Our policy is to maintain sincere and balanced relations with both India and China. One power will not be positioned against another. Nepal will not be allowed to be used against any neighbouring country. We have lived here for generations and will continue to live here. Our neighbouring countries will also remain where they are, and we too will remain here,” said former Prime Minister of Nepal and Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal, K.P. Sharma Oli. He was speaking in the context of the national elections scheduled to be held on 5 March.

1.  Ahead of the elections in Nepal, Oli, who has served as Prime Minister four times, reiterated that Nepal should maintain good relations with both India and China.

2.  Referring to the massive youth agitation that took place in Nepal last year, he alleged that it was “an attempt to destabilise Nepal,” indicating that foreign forces might have been behind the agitation. He also stated that elements with criminal tendencies had taken control of the agitation.

3.  When asked whether foreign funding was entering the elections and whether external pressure was being exerted from outside, he admitted that such discussions were ongoing; however, he said there was no concrete evidence. He clarified that he would not make any statement without concrete proof.

Editorial Perspective

During his tenure, Oli, who leads the Communist Party, aligned himself closely with China, made anti-India statements, and spread anti-India sentiment among the Nepali people. Therefore, the Indian public is aware that he is making such statements merely to enhance his image.
