Gangavathi (Karnataka) – A Hindu trader brutally assaulted by Jihadis

Attack allegedly triggered by the circulation of a report regarding Khamenei’s death

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – In a serious incident at Gangavathi town in Koppal district of Karnataka, Islamic extremists carried out a brutal and life-threatening assault on a Hindu dry-fruits trader, Chandrashekhar. The attack reportedly occurred after he shared a news report on his Instagram, claiming that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been killed in an attack by the United States and Israel. After this incident, tension prevailed in the area, and Hindus have demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.

Sequence of events

According to the complaint filed by Chandrashekhar, five to six Islamic extremists entered his shop while he was at work. They allegedly surrounded him, verbally abused him for sharing the news on Instagram, and accused him of hurting religious sentiments. The situation soon escalated into physical violence. Chandrashekhar stated, “The attackers not only assaulted me severely but also threatened to barge into my house and kill me and my family members.” Following the assault, he approached the Gangavathi Town Police Station late at night and sought immediate police protection. The police have registered a case and commenced an investigation. CCTV footage from cameras installed near the shop is being scrutinised to identify and apprehend the culprits. Residents have expressed concern that resorting to violence over the sharing of an international news report on social media amounts to an attack on freedom of expression.

Editorial perspective

When even the dissemination of widely circulated global news becomes a pretext for violent retaliation by Jihadis, it underscores their anti-Hindu sentiment. They are only looking for a chance to attack Hindus. To keep them on a leash, an effective Hindu organisation is needed.
