  • Iranian Govt confirms death

Tehran (Iran) – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (age 86) has died in a joint US-Israeli attack. This ended Khamenei’s tenure since 1989. The 86-year-old leader, who led Iran for 36 years, had his central leadership compound in Tehran destroyed in the Israeli-US attack. Iranian State media has confirmed Khamenei’s death. Earlier, Israeli media had claimed that videos of his body were shown to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Who was Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ?

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei assumed the supreme power of Iran after the death of Ruhollah Khamenei in 1989. Initially, Khamenei was seen as a “leader without the qualities of a senior cleric.” However, over time, he consolidated broad powers, led the armed forces, appointed senior judicial and security officials, and shaped Iran’s nuclear and foreign policies.

Khamenei called America the ‘Great Satan’

Throughout his tenure, Khamenei described the United States as the “Great Satan.” He successfully resisted Western efforts to curb Iran’s uranium enrichment. Khamenei cautiously supported the 2015 nuclear deal under President Hassan Rouhani. The US reimposed sanctions on Iran in 2018, which deepened distrust between the US and Khamenei. Khamenei’s stance has become increasingly hardline under Donald Trump’s second term.

Growing discontent among the Iranian people

Iran has seen repeated unrest over the years. From the 2009 election protests to the 2022 protests following the death in custody of female activist Mahsa Amini, the Iranian monarchy has faced significant resistance from citizens. Under Khamenei’s leadership, attempts to suppress dissent have included executions and crackdowns on protests.

Open support for terrorist forces

During Khamenei’s tenure, he openly supported terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Israel, and the Houthis in Yemen. This further escalated Iran’s conflict with Israel, culminating in outright war in 2024 and 2025. Finally, on March 1st, 2026, the Khamenei era came to an end.

It is well known what the fanatic Muslims of India do while mourning. Will the Government take responsibility for protecting the Hindus of India, or should they themselves be ready for self-defense ?
