Draft Bill sent to the Law and Judiciary Department by the Special Committee

Mumbai – Discussions have been held in meetings of a Special Committee regarding the enactment of an anti-‘Love Jihad’ law in Maharashtra, and the draft prepared by the Committee has been forwarded to the Law and Judiciary Department. The meetings of the Special Committee were conducted under the chairmanship of the Director General of Police of the State.
The high-level committee includes Secretaries from the Women and Child Development Department, Minority Affairs Department, Law and Judiciary Department, as well as the Social Justice and Home Departments. Efforts are reportedly underway to expedite the introduction of the law in the backdrop of the abduction of a Hindu girl from Bhigwan.
Earlier, states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have enacted laws against ‘Love Jihad’ and unlawful religious conversions. The high-level committee has undertaken a detailed study of the legislation in force in these states.
