Ban Imposed on 5 OTT Platforms for Spreading Obscenity

(“OTT platform” refers to “Over The Top platform” online media that stream films, web series, and other programs.)

New Delhi — On 24 February, the Central Government took action and banned five OTT platforms for allegedly streaming obscene content. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting adopted a strict stance and blocked Mood X VIP, Koyal PlayPro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu. These platforms are no longer accessible in India.

1. These platforms were openly violating regulations. According to government officials, the content being streamed on them was highly objectionable in nature.

2. The action was taken under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The government has full authority to block online content under this provision. Similar action has been taken in the past. The government has made it clear that no leniency will be shown toward platforms spreading obscene material.

3. Earlier, in July 2025, action was taken against 25 platforms such as ALT and ULLU. In 2023 as well, 18 platforms were shut down. Obscene and explicit material was also being circulated through the social media accounts linked to these platforms.
