Bangladesh Prime Minister Tariq Rahman is an ‘engineer’ of election manipulation !

Allegations by opposition parties in Bangladesh

Tariq Rahman

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Opposition parties in Bangladesh have accused Prime Minister Tariq Rahman of electoral rigging, alleging that he is an ‘engineer’ who manipulates election results, enabling his Bangladesh Nationalist Party to secure more than 200 seats.

The 11-party alliance led by the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami has alleged that widespread irregularities occurred in several constituencies. Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman stated that polling was conducted properly, but irregularities occurred during vote counting. He has also lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission regarding 32 seats.

Tariq Rahman was sworn in as Prime Minister on February 17, becoming Bangladesh’s first male Prime Minister in 35 years.

Editorial Perspective

What greater rigging or malpractice could there be than holding elections after imposing a ban on the Awami League, which had been in power for the past 20 years? Such political accusations and counter-accusations in Bangladesh are nothing short of a major farce.
