Devotee will now be able to enter the sanctum sanctorum of Konark Temple

Entrance will be allowed after a year after the sand, that was filled inside the sanctum sanctorum, is removed

Bhuvaneshwar (Odisha) – Devotees will be allowed entrance into the sanctum sanctorum after a year. Presently the sand that fills the sanctum is being removed. There is a 15 feet wall on the rear side of the temple. In 1903-04 the British, filled tons of sand inside the sanctum; to prevent this wall from falling. Thus, closing the sanctum sanctorum. Now the Archaeological Survey of India and ‘IIT Madras’ have given the job of removing this sand to a team of 30 specialists.

It will take them 3 months to completely remove, this sand. A year later the devotees will be enter this historical Temple for the first time.

More than 35 lakh tourists annually visit this, historical Temple. It stands at the second place after the Taj Mahal; as the favourite Heritage site of the tourists.
