Stone-pelting by religious fanatics on Kanwariya procession in Amroha (Uttar Pradesh); five injured

Attack carried out despite police presence

Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) – A group of Kanwariya devotees, who had returned with sacred Ganga water from Haridwar and were halting at a Shiva temple, was allegedly targeted in a stone-pelting incident by local Muslim youths. According to reports, the stone-throwing continued even after the police reached the spot. Five people, including a police constable, sustained injuries. As tension escalated, additional police force was deployed to bring the situation under control.

Police have registered a case against two individuals in connection with the incident. 3 individuals, namely Imran, Shanu, Adnan, and Mohammad Zahid, have been arrested.

Protest by Hindus outside the police station

The incident led to tension in the area. The injured were admitted to the Community Health Centre for treatment. Residents expressed anger, alleging that even two hours after the situation worsened, senior police officials, including a police inspector, had not reached the spot. Many Hindus gathered outside the police station, raising slogans and demanding strict action against those responsible.
