‘Tamil-Brahmi’ Inscriptions Dating Back to 2000 Years Found in Egypt

Cairo (Egypt) – In the rock-cut tombs of Egypt’s Valley of the Kings- a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for pharaonic burials, 2000-year-old inscriptions have been found. In six rocks-cut tombs, about 30 inscriptions have been identified in Tamil-Brahmi and Prakrit languages and documented by Professor Ingo Strauch of Lausanne University, Switzerland, along with Professor Charlotte Schmid of the ‘French School of Asian Studies’, Paris.

Swiss Professor Ingo Strauch presented these inscriptions during a four-day international conference on Tamil epigraphy. It has been observed from the research that ancient Tamil traders had travelled to interior parts of Egypt.
