  • Student and his father threaten teacher, saying, “You live alone in the city — remember that”

Panchmahal (Gujarat) – At S.J. Dave High School in Shehra village, an 18-year-old Class 12 student, Mohammad Khan Ansari, slapped a female teacher after she questioned him for arriving late for a preliminary examination. The incident occurred on 24 January and was captured on CCTV. The video has since circulated on social media.

After the student’s parents were informed, they apologised to the teacher and the principal. However, on 27 January, Mohammad Khan Ansari returned to the school along with his father and 15 to 20 others. He allegedly threatened the teacher, telling her, ‘You live alone in this city, so you should take care of yourself.’

1.  According to Police, when Ansari arrived late for the preliminary examination, the female supervising teacher asked him the reason. He responded rudely, saying, ‘No one questions me at home. Who are you to question me?’ He then slapped the teacher and pushed her before fleeing the spot.

2.  Following the teacher’s complaint, on 3 February Police registered a case against Mohammad Khan, four others and members of the mob. Khan later stated that he had come only to apologise to the teacher and school staff. In this case, Khan and three others were arrested and subsequently granted bail by the Court.

Editorial Perspective

  • This incident exposes the depths to which fanatical and criminal-minded Muslims can descend. If schools begin to question whether such individuals should be admitted at all, it should not come as a surprise.
  • If someone says that no matter how educated fanatics become, they may still indulge in criminal acts, what is wrong in saying so ?
