America used Pakistan and threw it away like ‘Toilet Paper’ later: Khawaja Asif

Allegation made in Parliament by Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif

Islamabad (Pakistan) – The United States used Pakistan for its own benefit and, once its purpose was served, threw it away like “toilet paper,” Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif alleged while speaking in Parliament.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said,

1. Pakistan participated in two wars that were not its own, but wars of global superpowers. In 1979, the Soviet Union intervened in Afghanistan. This step was taken by Russia at the invitation of the Afghan government; however, the United States described it as a direct invasion and created its own narrative around it.

2. We fought two wars that were fought on Afghan soil. We participated in them in the name of Islam and religion; but in reality, two military dictators (Zia-ul-Haq and Pervez Musharraf) did so to gain the support of global powers.

3. Pakistan is still paying the price for standing with the United States

After the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US, Pakistan is still paying the price for aligning with America. Pakistan did not learn from history and kept leaning at times toward the US, at times toward Russia, and at times toward Britain for small gains. Now these countries have greater influence here than they did 30–40 years ago.

4. Participating in the two Afghan wars was a major mistake by Pakistan, and the terrorism present in the country today is the result of those mistakes.

5. Today’s terrorism in Pakistan is the result of dictators’ mistakes

We do not accept our history and our mistakes. Today’s terrorism is the consequence of the errors made by those dictators. The damage Pakistan has suffered can never be compensated. To justify these wars, deliberate changes were made in Pakistan’s education system. Those changes still exist in the system today.

Editorial Perspective

On one hand, Pakistan’s minister says such things in Parliament, and on the other hand, their Prime Minister and Army Chief are flattering the United States ! Why does Asif not speak about this ?
