Moscow (Russia) – The United States is exerting pressure on countries such as India to prevent them from purchasing cheap oil from Russia. The US wants to keep the world’s energy supply under its own control and force countries to buy expensive American gas, alleged Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister.
US using the dollar as a weapon
Lavrov said that the United States has begun using the dollar as a weapon. The world is changing rapidly. Earlier, the US dominated the global economy and financial system and projected its power through the dollar; however, that grip is now weakening. Countries such as China, India and Brazil are progressing rapidly. Nations in Africa, too, now wish to build industries within their own countries instead of merely exporting raw materials.
Pressure on BRICS countries to distance themselves from Russia
Lavrov stated that the United States is pressuring India and other BRICS countries to distance themselves from Russia. The initiatives being advanced by India are necessary in the present times. Issues such as the fight against terrorism, food and energy security, technology and artificial intelligence are important.
Western countries unwilling to relinquish their hold
Lavrov said that Western countries do not want to give up their old grip on the world. After the Trump administration came to power, it has become even clearer that the United States wants to control the global energy sector and is attempting to curb its competitors.
