Adani Group warns of cutting power supply to Bangladesh !

Outstanding dues of ₹1,000 crore !

Dhaka (Bangladesh) — With general elections scheduled to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February, the country is now facing the looming threat of a major power crisis. Indian company Adani Power Limited has issued a strongly worded letter to the Bangladesh Power Development Board, warning that electricity supply will be discontinued if outstanding dues are not cleared. Bangladesh currently owes ₹1,000 crore. Bangladesh purchases a substantial portion of its required electricity from the Adani Group’s Godda power project in Jharkhand. Leading Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo has reported this development.

Avinash Anurag, Vice-President of Adani Power Limited, sent a letter to the Chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board on 29 January, demanding immediate payment of USD 112.7 million (approximately ₹1,000 crore) to ensure smooth operations. Anurag clarified that despite repeated requests, the Bangladesh government has failed to clear the dues.

The Adani Group stated that if the outstanding amount is not received, it will become impossible to maintain the power generation plant and procure raw materials. This would have a direct impact on electricity supply.
