Former TMC leader kills 81-year-old man protesting against illegal construction in Barrackpore (Bengal)

Kolkata (Bengal) – An 81-year-old man named Tulsi Adhikari was killed while protesting against illegal construction in Barrackpore, District North 24 Parganas. Senior advocate and former Trinamool Congress leader Rabindranath Bhattacharya has been arrested in this case. Bhattacharya was the secretary of the Barrackpore Bar Association and a Trinamool Congress corporator representing Ward No. 23 of North Barrackpore Municipality; but he was suspended from the party for 6 years.

What is the matter ?

Tulsi Adhikari had opposed the 3-storey illegal building next to Bhattacharya’s house in Manirampur, Barrackpore. Locals said that on February 7th, Adhikari was present at the protest site against the illegal construction. At this time, Bhattacharya attacked. When Adhikari intervened to protect his son Hemant, Bhattacharya kicked Adhikari. Adhikari fell down and was taken to the hospital subsequently, where he was declared brought dead.

BJP warns of a major protest if justice is not done

The BJP has launched a protest against the murder and demanded the death penalty for Bhattacharya. The BJP has alleged that Bhattacharya is getting VIP treatment in jail. The BJP has warned of a major protest if justice is not served.
