Malaysia–India Joint Statement

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) – After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Malaysia, the two countries issued a joint statement. In it, both sides adopted a firm stand against terrorism, strongly condemning terrorism in all its forms and clearly affirming a policy of zero tolerance. Both Prime Ministers agreed to step up joint international efforts to end all terrorist activities, including cross-border terrorism.
On this occasion, it was decided to strengthen cooperation through information sharing and capacity building to curb extremism, terrorist financing, and the misuse of new technologies. Recognizing the serious links between terrorism and organized international crime, both countries expressed their commitment to joint action, exchange of information, and enhanced coordination on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations. In the areas of defence and security, a decision was taken to expand maritime cooperation and naval exercises.

While the joint statement is a positive step, real action starts with the extradition of Zakir Naik.
Without handing him over to India, these agreements remain nothing but "empty promises." 🗣️… pic.twitter.com/2Yt3m7k7Sn

Editorial PerspectiveMalaysia must, as part of this, first take concrete action by handing over Zakir Naik to India. Otherwise, such agreements will amount to nothing more than empty words and hollow promises. |
