Pakistan observes so-called ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ !

Islamabad (Pakistan) – As it does every year, Pakistan once again observed the so-called ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ on February 5th. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir used the occasion to once again make provocative and objectionable statements against India on the Kashmir issue.

In a statement released by the Pakistani Army, it was stated that Army Chief Asim Munir, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Sidhu expressed their support for the people of Kashmir on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day. On behalf of Pakistan’s armed forces, all three chiefs publicly declared their backing for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a separate statement, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari said that the people of Pakistan stand firmly and in solidarity with the Kashmiri people in what he described as their “struggle.” He also noted that the tradition of observing Kashmir Solidarity Day was initiated in 1989 by Benazir Bhutto, and that it has been continued uninterrupted for the past 36 years.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his statement, attempted to directly target India. He levelled several allegations, particularly against India’s Kashmir policy. He also appealed to the international community, urging it to exert global pressure on India over the Kashmir issue.

Editorial perspective

Kashmir will certainly be “united” in the future; but not by merging with Pakistan. Instead, this unity will be achieved when Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is reunited with India. Someone needs to make this clear to Pakistan !
