New Delhi– India’s Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the energy security of 140 crore Indians is the top priority of the government and for this, all options are available including Russia, America, Venezuela. President Trump while informing that India has signed a trade deal with the United States ; had said that India would not buy oil from Russia but would buy that from the United States and Venezuela. Regarding this, India gave the above information.
Jaiswal said Venezuela is India’s traditional energy partner and Venezuela was a major source of crude oil for India before the sanctions were imposed in 2019-20. After that in 202-24 when tariff were relaxed oil purchase restarted. But after sanctions resumed again that process had to be halted. India is ready to explore the option of buying oil from Venezuela if the prices are affordable and there are no supply disruptions. Government is employing the strategy of not being dependent on one country and purchasing oil from different countries to avoid scarcity of petrol, diesel in the country as well as to keep the oil rate under control. India’s energy strategies will be decided keeping in mind the market condition, prices and national interest, the ministry clarified.
