Uttarakhand becomes free of the Madrasa Board!

From July 1st, a Minority Education Authority will come into force!

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) – The BJP-led government in Uttarakhand has decided to abolish the Madrasa Board in the state. In its place, a new authority has been established. After receiving the Governor’s approval, the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority has officially been constituted, and a formal notification regarding its formation has been issued.

According to the notification, appointments have been made to a total of 11 positions, including the post of Chairperson. Surjit Singh Gandhi, a retired professor from BSM PG College, Roorkee, has been appointed as the Chairperson.

The newly formed authority will be responsible for framing policies related to minority educational institutions. Its primary focus will be on the administration of madarasa institutions, and it will also determine the structure and curriculum of education imparted in these institutions. The authority will come into effect from July 1st, 2026.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority will now decide what kind of education should be provided to minority students. Following the government’s decision to do away with the Madrasa Board, the establishment of this authority was deemed necessary.

He further clarified that all minority educational institutions will now be required to obtain recognition from the Uttarakhand Board of School Education, making a unified regulatory framework mandatory across the state.

Editorial Perspective

Madrasa Boards should be abolished across the country, and education in the name of religion must be stopped altogether. This would help curb jihadist and terrorist activities within the nation!
