Girls blackmailed using obscene videos and forced into prostitution

Basti (Uttar Pradesh) – In Basti, a Muslim youth named Azfarul Haq alias Prince, along with his gang, trapped more than 300 young women in a web of false love. Thereafter, obscene videos of sexual relations with them were recorded and used to threaten and blackmail the victims. Treating these videos as weapons, several girls were forcibly pushed into prostitution within the country as well as abroad. After the case came to light, the police have begun an investigation. The number of victims and the vast spread of the racket have emerged as a major challenge for the investigating agencies.
1. The victim who lodged the complaint works at a private hospital in Basti city.
2. In January 2022, she met Azfarul Haq alias Prince. Claiming to be a Hindu, Azfarul lured the young woman into a relationship by promising her a good job and then sexually exploited her.
3. When she went to the accused’s house to discuss marriage, Azfarul, with the help of his brother and other accomplices, gang-raped her. She was threatened with severe consequences for herself and her family if she resisted. Out of fear, she was forced to remain in contact with the accused.
4. In her statement, the victim has claimed that the accused and his brother had similarly deceived around 300 girls. Videos of all the victims were recorded and they were sent for prostitution to various states and even to countries such as Nepal.
