7 Congress MPs while 1 CPI(M) MP suspended

New Delhi – The Lok Sabha resumed its proceedings at 11 a.m. on the fifth day of the Budget Session of Parliament; but it could continue for only 8 minutes. The opposition raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The proceedings of the House were adjourned several times. During the discussion in Parliament, some MPs threw papers at the Speaker. Due to this indiscipline, 8 MPs, 7 from the Congress and 1 from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), were suspended from the entire Budget Session.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that raising slogans is wrong and against the rules. However, the opposition continued the ruckus. Hence, the Speaker suspended 8 MPs who threw papers at him. The suspended MPs include Manickam Tagore, Gurjit Aujla, Raja Warring, Hibi Eden, Kiran Reddy, Prashant Padole, Venkat Raman and Dean Kuriakose. After the suspension, these MPs protested in the Parliament premises.
Speaker Om Birla held a meeting with Congress and BJP MPs to discuss the uproar to ensure smooth functioning of the House. Outside the House, opposition MPs also raised slogans on the US-India trade deal.
Editorial PerspectiveIt is better not to even think about how MPs, who do not respect the Lok Sabha Speaker, would treat the common people. |
