Urdu medium school timings changed in Karnataka during Ramzan

Karnataka Congress Govt’s decision, BJP opposes

Bengaluru (Karnataka) – Keeping in mind the month of Ramzan, the timings of Urdu medium schools in Karnataka have been changed. This is being opposed. BJP national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla accused the Congress Government of always prioritizing vote-bank politics and not working according to the principle of equality in the Constitution.

New timings applicable for one month

As per the directives of the Directorate of Urdu and Other Minority Language Schools in Karnataka, Urdu medium junior primary and upper primary schools will be functioning from 8 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. during the Ramzan period. This arrangement will be in force for one month from the date of commencement of Ramzan. The Directorate has clarified that this decision has been taken under the extension of the permanent order issued on 31st October 2002.

Changes in the academic calendar

Along with this, the Education Department has also revised the academic calendar of all Government, aided and unaided Urdu medium junior, senior and secondary schools in the State for the academic year 2025-26. This revised schedule will be in effect from the beginning of Ramzan till March 20th, 2026.

Has such a concession ever been given during Hindu festivals ? : BJP

BJP national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla criticized the Karnataka Government and asked, “School timings are changed during Ramzan; but has such a concession ever been given during any Hindu festival ? If teachers and employees are allowed to leave early during Ramzan, will the same concession be given during festivals like Navratri ?” He mentioned that such incidents have happened in Karnataka before.

Some people are against equality : Karnataka Government

Responding to the BJP’s criticism, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said that some sections of society have been neglected for a long time and now they need to be given equal status. (Why have these sections been neglected even when the Congress Government has been in power for the longest time in the country ? Parmeshwara should tell us – Editor). Don’t you think that these people should also get the benefit of equality ? (Since India is a secular country, nowhere it has been mentioned that equality should be given in the name of religion. Therefore, the Congress’ decision is wrong – Editor) If such decisions are being opposed, it means that some people are against equality. (We oppose the appeasement of Muslims in the name of equality – Editor). The purpose of this decision is to strengthen the inclusive education system and provide facilities to students from minority communities. (To strengthen the education system, better education should be provided. Providing facilities on the basis of religion will not strengthen the education system – Editor).

Editorial Perspective

It has been evident since the Congress came to power in Karnataka that Congress Government is akin to ‘Pakistan regime’ ! It is shameful that Hindus in Karnataka do not seem to be opposing this.
