Consistent injustices and atrocities against Sikh minority in Pakistan

Islamabad (Pakistan) – Although Pakistan’s Constitution claims to guarantee equality and protection to religious minorities on paper, the ground reality tells a very different story. A recent report has brought to light systematic injustice and atrocities faced by the Sikh minority in Pakistan.

According to the report, in 2023, Sikh shopkeepers Dayal Singh and Manmohan Singh were shot dead in Peshawar and nearby areas. The report also highlights repeated incidents of false blasphemy allegations, mob violence, and illegal seizure of minority-owned properties.

The report, published by ‘Khalsa Vox,’ states that genuine reforms for minorities are possible only through independent investigations into atrocities, swift enforcement of court orders, fixing accountability of biased officials, and protection against the misuse of blasphemy laws and mob violence.

Injustice against Sikh businesses

1. The report cites the case of Gurvinder Singh, a Sikh businessman in Peshawar, who started a business in 2022 with 3 Muslim partners, opening a mobile phone showroom. The 3 partners allegedly defrauded Singh of 75 million Pakistani rupees.

2. After the fraud came to light, Singh filed a complaint with the Peshawar Police. Despite favourable verdicts from the Sessions Court and the Peshawar High Court, the accused continue to roam free and have not returned the money.

3. Singh also approached Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohel Afridi, the provincial and central governments, and even Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, but no intervention or relief was provided from any quarter.

Sikh women continue to face abduction

The report further documents disturbing cases of abduction of Sikh women, forced religious conversions, and coerced marriages. In 2019, Jagjit Kaur from Nankana Sahib was abducted at gunpoint, forcibly converted to Islam, and married off to a Muslim man. Shockingly, the court verdict in this case favoured the abductor.

Editorial Perspective

So-called Khalistan supporters in countries like Canada and Britain; who claim to fight for Sikhs rights; remain completely silent on the dire condition of Sikhs in Pakistan. This silence exposes their fake concern for Sikhs. This reality must be clearly understood that the Khalistan movement is Pakistan-sponsored and aimed solely at breaking India !
