Bangladeshi intruders were caught

Mumbai, 24 January – In 2024 and 2025, a total of 868 Bangladeshi infiltrators were found at over 80 different locations in Mumbai. Additionally, 723 Bangladeshi infiltrators were detected in Navi Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayandar, Panvel, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune and Nanded. Over these two years, 1,237 Bangladeshi infiltrators have been found across Maharashtra. Although the police have taken all these infiltrators into custody, the discovery of Indian citizenship documents in large numbers in their possession is even more alarming. This strongly indicates that a large organised network is operating to settle Bangladeshi infiltrators not only in Maharashtra but across the country, with the active assistance of certain officials within the administration. Compared to other parts of the state, the sheer spread of infiltrators across every corner of Mumbai shows that Mumbai is a preferred destination for these infiltrators. Investigative agencies must probe this entire matter with utmost seriousness.

In cases related to all the Bangladeshi infiltrators who were apprehended, 726 offences have been registered at the respective police stations. To verify whether these infiltrators have been availing benefits of government schemes, the state Anti-Terrorism Squad has sent a list of their names to various government departments, including the Health Department, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Housing Department and Revenue Department. Verification in this regard is currently underway.

Bangladeshi infiltrators found in Mumbai’s lanes and bylanes

Bangladeshi infiltrators have been found at over 80 locations in Mumbai, including Nagpada, Worli, Kurla, Dharavi, Nehru Nagar, Mankhurd, Chunabhatti, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Vile Parle, Versova, Bandra, Juhu, Santacruz, Khar, Andheri, Sakinaka, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malvani, Malad, Borivali, Charkop, Dahisar, Wadala and Mahim. This list clearly shows that Bangladeshi infiltrators are present deep within Mumbai’s residential pockets.

Anti-Terrorism Squad expresses concern

Although these Bangladeshi infiltrators have been apprehended, all the forged documents obtained by them have not yet come into the hands of the police. Based on these documents, there is a possibility that the infiltrators have been availing benefits of various government

schemes, the Anti-Terrorism Squad has warned. Accordingly, under the signature of Maharashtra ATS Additional Director General of Police Naval Bajaj, lists of infiltrators have been sent to various government departments, and verification is ongoing.

These Indian citizenship documents were found with infiltrators !

Important documents considered as proof of Indian citizenship such as birth certificates, voter cards, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, driving licences, passports, voter identity cards and ration cards have been found in the possession of Bangladeshi infiltrators. These documents were obtained using forged papers.

Sluggish functioning of the administration !

The Anti-Terrorism Squad sent these lists to various government departments in May 2025. However, the pace of verification to determine whether infiltrators are included in schemes run by the respective departments has been extremely slow. Even after eight months, some government departments have not submitted their reports to the Home Department. This demands serious attention from the government.

Overall, considering the continuously rising number of Bangladeshi infiltrators being detected over the past few years, it cannot be ruled out that their actual numbers in Maharashtra could run into lakhs. Both the local assistance extended to infiltrators and the official documents issued to them by the administration are extremely serious issues. To identify and eliminate Bangladeshi infiltrators, the government, police, administration and citizens must work together in a coordinated manner.

Editorial Perspective

The discovery of such a large number of Bangladeshi infiltrators in Maharashtra is, in effect, a failure of investigative agencies. The fact that infiltrators possess Indian citizenship documents clearly indicates deep-rooted corruption within the administration. The government must take strict action against such officials who are weakening the nation from within.
