Hindu Parties in Bhoj-shala case Demand Ban on ‘Namaz’ on Vasant Panchami

  • Issue of performing ‘puja’ at Bhoj-shala on Vasant Panchami in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh

  • A petition filed in Supreme Court

New Delhi – A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking permission to perform ‘puja’ on the day of  ‘Vasant Panchami’ in the Mata Vagdevi Mandir in Bhoj-shala in Dhar in Madhya Pradesh (MP). This year Vasant Panchami is on 23.01.2026, a Friday.

Demand to impose ban on offering ‘Namaz’

Hindu parties have demanded a ban on Muslims’ ‘Namaz’-offering in Bhoj-shala on 23.01.2026, on the day of ‘Vasant Panchami’. ASI and the State Government have been asked to provide tight security on that day. Hindu parties have also requested for an early hearing on their petition.

Petition by ‘Hindu Front for Justice’

The petition has been filed by advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain for ‘Hindu Front for Justice (HFJ)’. It has been mentioned in the petition that there is a temple of Mata Vagdevi i.e. Shri Saraswati Devi in the  Bhoj-shala premises and it was built by a King of Parmar dynasty in the eleventh century. Earlier, Hindus used to perform ‘puja’ and worship here. On 07.04.2023, the ASI issued an order under which Hindus have been allowed to perform ‘puja’ at Bhoj-shala on every Tuesday and on the day of ‘Vasant Panchami’, whereas Muslims have been allowed to offer ‘Namaz’ every Friday between 1.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. The ASI has, however, not advised what is to be done when Vasant Panchami falls on a Friday.

Editorial Perspective

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has already conducted a survey in Bhoj-shala as directed by the Court and many idols of Deities and other remnants  of Hindu religious symbols have been found during the survey; therefore, the Court should now hand over the control of Bhoj-shala to Hindus and end the dispute permanently.
