Chandigarh – As part of the drive to make Punjab drug free, the Punjab Police conducted a state-wide search operation on January 17, 2026, during which raids were conducted at 831 drug syndicate locations in 28 districts of the state, arresting 227 drug peddlers and seizing a huge quantity of drugs and illicit money. This action was taken as per the directive of Chief minister Bhagwant Mann. This was the 322nd day of the ongoing anti-drug drive in the state.
Special Director General of Police of the State Arpit Shukla gave a detailed account of the anti-narcotics drive. He said that the results of this campaign started from March 1 are visible and so far 45,028 drug peddlers have been arrested.
During this period, the Punjab Police has registered 31,370 cases related to drug smuggling.
Special Director General of Police Arpit Shukla said that more than 90,000 drug addicts have been admitted to de-addiction centres across the state under the preventive policies.
