Former office-bearer of Bangladesh Nationalist Party crushes Hindu youth to death with vehicle in Bangladesh

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – In the Sadar upazila of Rajbari district in Bangladesh, a Hindu youth named Ripon Saha was killed by Muslims. Ripon was employed at a petrol pump. When he asked for payment for fuel, instead of paying, the vehicle driver deliberately ran him over.

The Police have seized the vehicle and arrested its owner, Abul Hashem, who is reportedly a former treasurer of the Rajbari district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. The driver of the vehicle, Kamal Hossain, has also been taken into custody.

Ripon Saha worked at Karim Filling Station located at Golanda Mor in Rajbari. A black Land Cruiser was refuelled and attempted to leave without payment. When Ripon stopped the vehicle and demanded payment for the petrol, the driver deliberately accelerated and crushed him under the vehicle. Ripon died on the spot. The accused fled with the vehicle.

Not an accident, but a deliberate murder

Officer-in-Charge of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, Khondkar Ziaur Rahman, confirming the incident, stated that this was not an accident but a deliberate murder. He said the victim was standing in front of the vehicle after asking for payment for petrol, and was intentionally run over at that moment.

Editorial perspective

With general elections scheduled in Bangladesh on 12 February and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party likely to come to power, Hindus are already being killed by party-linked individuals. This indicates what may follow if the party comes to power.
