Decision Violates International Law, says Joint Special Operations Command

Washington (USA) — US President Donald Trump has reportedly ordered senior officials of the US military’s Joint Special Operations Command to prepare a strategic blueprint for taking control of Greenland. He has instructed the leadership of elite special forces to remain prepared for a possible military operation.
However, senior military officials have openly opposed the directive. According to them, such a move would be in clear violation of international law and is unlikely to receive approval from the US Congress. Military leaders have cautioned that the proposal lacks both legal and political legitimacy.

A faction within the US military establishment has argued that after the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the United States should move swiftly to assert control over Greenland as well. They claim that any delay could allow Russia or China to establish dominance in the strategically important region.
British administrative officials, meanwhile, have suggested that domestic political considerations are driving Washington’s stance on Greenland. With midterm elections approaching, public scrutiny over economic issues is expected to intensify. In this context, the government is believed to be attempting to shift voters’ attention towards broader national security concerns.
