The Chief Priest of Sabarimala Temple arrested

The matter of gold theft at Sabarimala Temple

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – In the case of gold theft at the Sabarimala temple, the State Government’s Special Investigation Team had taken the chief priest, Kandararu Rajeevaru, into custody on 9 January. He has now been formally arrested. Investigation officers stated that Rajeevaru had close links with the main accused in the case, Unnikrishnan Potti.

The investigation has further revealed that Rajeevaru also played a role in recommending the suspicious purchase of the doorkeeper idols and the gold vessel of the sanctum sanctorum at the Shri Ayyappa temple. This is the eleventh arrest in the case.

The Enforcement Directorate has registered a case of embezzlement of money

This investigation is being done independently by the ED. They have registered a crime under the sections of embezzlement of funds. Kerala High Court had in December permitted independent investigation by the ED.
