Pakistan had to amend the Constitution, after ‘Operation Sindoor’ : CDS General Anil Chauhan

(CDS stands for the Chief of Defence Staff, i.e. the chiefs of the three security services)

CDS General Anil Chauhan

Pune, Maharashtra – ‘Operation Sindoor’ has only paused, it is not over.  After ‘Operation Sindoor’, Pakistan had to  create a new post like ‘Chief of Defence Force’ (akin to the chiefs of the three services). The operation forced Pakistan to amend the Constitution. This is the proof that the neighbouring country had to face a major defeat,” CDS General Anil Chauhan said. He was speaking at the Pune Public Policy Festival.

General Chauhan further said that the changes in Pakistan show that many deficiencies and weaknesses of Pakistan have been exposed through ‘Operation Sindoor’. The amendment to Article 243 of Pakistan’s constitution has brought major changes in its top defence organisation. The post of chairman of ‘the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee’ has been abolished. Instead, the post of ‘Chief of Defence Forces’ has been created. The provision that this post should be held only by the Chief of Army Staff is against the principle of inclusiveness. ‘The National Strategy Command’ has been set up in Pakistan.
