Trump Warns : If the US Does Not Take Control of Greenland, Russia or China Might

Washington (USA) — If the United States does not bring Greenland under its control, there is a strong possibility that Russia or China could seek to dominate the region, US President Donald Trump has said. Stressing the strategic risks, Trump stated that preventing such a scenario makes it essential for Greenland to remain under American control. “We do not want Russia or China as our neighbours,” he remarked.

Trump made these comments during a meeting with senior executives from the oil and gas sector at the White House. He also announced that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to meet the foreign minister of Denmark, along with representatives from Greenland, next week.

According to Trump, the mineral-rich island is critically important to America’s national security. He added that if purchasing Greenland through diplomatic means proves impossible, the United States may be compelled to consider a more forceful approach.

Why Greenland Matters ?

Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. It hosts the US Pituffik Space Base and is endowed with significant natural resources, including rare minerals. Its strategic location also makes it highly valuable from a trade and security perspective. Trump had earlier proposed the idea of purchasing Greenland in 2019, but the plan did not materialise.
