Trump approves bill imposing harsh sanctions on Russia

Provision to impose tariffs of up to 500 per cent on countries buying oil from Russia

Washington (USA) – US President Donald Trump has approved a bill imposing stringent sanctions on Russia. The bill includes a provision to levy tariffs of up to 500 per cent on countries purchasing oil from Russia, particularly India, China and Brazil. The bill, titled the “Sanctioning of Russia Act 2025”, will be introduced in Parliament for voting next week.

The objective of the bill is to pressure countries that bought cheap crude oil from Russia during the Ukraine war. The United States has alleged that such purchases have provided Russia with financial support to continue the war.
