Mental Harassment of female Hindu Professor by Muslim Dean at Aligarh Muslim University !

Professor Rachna Kaushal

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) – Senior Professor Rachana Kaushal from the Department of Political Science at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has made grave and disturbing allegations against the department’s Dean, Prof. Mohammad Nafis Ahmed Ansari. She has asserted that she was subjected to systematic mental harassment for several years solely due to her Hindu identity. According to her, Prof. Ansari repeatedly pressurised her to resign from AMU and shift to Banaras Hindu University, indicating that she did not belong in AMU.

Harassment based on religious identity

Prof. Kaushal has categorically stated that the harassment she endured was purely due to her religion. She alleged that Dean Prof. Mohammad Nafis Ahmed Ansari repeatedly conveyed that a Hindu academic had no place in a Muslim-dominated institution like AMU, thereby creating a hostile and discriminatory work environment.

Excessive work pressure during pregnancy : Miscarriage alleged

She stated that discrimination began soon after her appointment in 1998. Recalling a deeply distressing incident, Prof. Kaushal alleged that in 2004, despite being pregnant, she was subjected to excessive and inhuman work pressure, which ultimately resulted in a miscarriage.

Allegation : Hindu teachers do not teach Muslim students properly

Prof. Kaushal further alleged that Dean Prof. Ansari made direct and derogatory remarks, claiming that Hindu teachers deliberately do not teach Muslim students properly. She also stated that she was deliberately excluded from departmental meetings and that her academic responsibilities were systematically withdrawn.

Deliberate obstruction of promotion

According to Prof. Kaushal, her promotion was intentionally stalled for several years. Reason being administrative bias and injustice. She stated that she was compelled to approach the High Court, and that she received her legitimate promotion only after judicial intervention.

Warning of police complaint if justice is denied

Prof. Kaushal has warned that if the university administration fails to deliver justice without delay, she will approach the Police. On the other hand, Dean Prof. Ansari has flatly denied all allegations, describing them as baseless, and has stated that he will present his defence before the Vice-Chancellor.
