The Election Commission is furious about the negligence of the Bengal Police.

  • The Election Commission is deeply angry over the negligence of the Bengal Police in the case of violence during the ‘SIR’ process in South 24 Pargana (Bengal)

  • They demanded a report from the Director General of Police (DGP).

Kolkata (Bengal) – On 29 December, Election Commission officials held a hearing in Magarahat I, Magarahat II and Kulpi constituencies of South 24 Pargana (Sub-division of a District) in the state under ‘SIR’. At this time, the people gathered there had obstructed Government work and also damaged the vehicles of the observers. The Election Commission was furious over this and asked the state’s DGP to give the reason for not providing adequate security. The Commission ordered the DGP to submit a detailed report, stating the action he took in that regard, by 5 pm on 6 January,.

According to the Commission, despite informing the Police in advance about the visit, they failed to provide proper security, and the observers had to visit the sensitive area despite inadequate security. A case was registered against 30-40 unidentified persons indulging in violence at that time.

The Commission directed that senior police officers should arrange adequate security provisions at the time when election observers pay their scheduled visit.
