Islamabad (Pakistan) – Former US President Donald Trump has been repeatedly claiming that he mediated during ‘Operation Sindoor’ and brought the conflict to an end. Seven months after the conflict, China too made a similar claim. Pakistan has now endorsed China’s claim of mediation. India had earlier categorically rejected Trump’s claim and has also dismissed China’s assertion.
Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated at a press conference that Chinese leaders were in constant contact with the Pakistani leadership and had also been in touch with the Indian leadership between 6 and 10 May 2025, and possibly even before and after that period. He said that these contacts, which were described as “highly positive diplomatic exchanges”, contributed to de-escalation and efforts to establish peace and security in the region. Therefore, he expressed confidence that China’s description of its mediation role was accurate.
China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi had, on 30 December 2025, claimed that China had played a mediatory role in several conflicts across the world, including the conflict between India and Pakistan.
