Mumbai – In view of the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, there had been demands to expel Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman, who was set to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now clarified its stand on the matter. The BCCI has directed the KKR to remove Rahman from the team. Actor Shah Rukh Khan is the owner of this franchise. Rahman had been bought by the team for ₹9.20 crore.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia told a news agency that, in light of the developments currently unfolding everywhere, the BCCI has ordered Rahman’s removal from the KKR squad. The BCCI has also stated that if the franchise requests a replacement player, the Board will permit them to sign one.

According to IPL rules, if a team unilaterally removes a player, it must pay the full contract amount; however, if the decision is taken with mutual consent between the team and the player, some resolution can be reached.

Editorial Perspective

Despite being aware of the ongoing atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, how did actor Shah Rukh Khan even sign Rahman for the team in the first place? This reflects Khan’s anti-Hindu mindset. Such actors have risen to prominence on the support of Hindus, a fact they repeatedly forget; therefore, Hindus must now duly remind them of this reality.
