Prime Minister Starmer welcomes anti-Semitic British Muslim activist after his release from Egyptian prison

Heavy criticism of the Prime Minister by British citizens

London (Britain) – British citizen Alaa Abd El-Fattah, who was held in an Egyptian prison for the past 14 years, has returned to Britain after being released. Several British Governments had tried to get Alaa Abd El-Fattah released. As a result, the Egyptian President pardoned him and he returned to London. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed him. Now Prime Minister Starmer is being criticised for this. Alaa Abd El-Fattah is anti-Semitic and his old posts on social media are coming to light.

Conservative Party leader Robert Jenrick criticised Starmer, saying, ” Did the Prime Minister not know about Fatah’s violent background? How can the Prime Minister publicly welcome a person who used anti-Semitic language and incited violence?”

The British Foreign Office clarified that the Government’s priority was to free a British citizen and reunite him with his family; however, this does not mean that we support his posts. His old views are deeply abhorrent and the Government condemns them.

Who is Alaa Abd El-Fattah ?

Fattah, 43, is a software developer and writer. He was a leader of Egypt's 2011 democratic revolution. The Egyptian Government has repeatedly imprisoned him on charges of spreading false information and organising unsanctioned protests. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison in 2021; but he was released after international pressure.
