Washington DC (USA) – While China is holding peace talks with India on one hand, it is simultaneously supplying weapons to Pakistan on the other, the United States has warned India, cautioning it about China’s double standards. In a report released by the Pentagon, the US Department of War, several serious allegations have been made against China.

The report further states,
1. In October 2024, India and China agreed to disengage from the remaining conflict-prone areas along the Line of Actual Control. China’s objective behind this move is to normalise relations with India and prevent it from moving closer to the United States.
2. A lack of trust still persists between India and China. The dispute over Arunachal Pradesh remains a major issue. China claims Arunachal Pradesh as its own territory, which is a direct challenge to India’s sovereignty. China places the Arunachal Pradesh issue on par with Taiwan and the South China Sea.
3. Since 2020, China has supplied fighter aircraft to Pakistan. In addition, both countries are jointly producing the JF-17 fighter jets. Pakistan is also receiving drones and naval equipment from China.
4. In December 2024, China and Pakistan conducted joint counter-terrorism military exercises. In the future, Chinese military bases may be established in Pakistan. If this happens, China’s presence near India’s borders will increase. China’s Western Theatre Command also conducted specialised high-altitude military exercises in 2024.
5. These overseas Chinese military bases could be used not only for military assistance but also for intelligence gathering. This would make it easier for China to monitor the military movements of the United States and its allies.
6. China’s People’s Liberation Army is working on plans to establish new military bases in 21 countries worldwide, including Bangladesh and Pakistan. The objective is to support Chinese naval and air force operations in distant regions and deploy troops there. China is particularly interested in areas through which major global maritime trade routes pass. Accordingly, it is closely monitoring strategic locations such as the Malacca Strait, the Strait of Hormuz, and certain regions in Africa and the Middle East.
7. At present, the primary focus of the Chinese military is on the “First Island Chain,” a maritime region stretching from Japan to Malaysia. China considers this area central to its strategic interests in Asia.
8. China’s military is preparing itself to confront a “well-equipped adversary” like the United States. China’s goal is to surpass the US as the world’s most powerful nation. To achieve this, it has adopted an all-out strategy, which it calls “National Total War.”
9. Over the past few years, China has rapidly expanded its nuclear weapons, long-range missile systems, naval power, cyber capabilities, and space capabilities. In 2024, China targeted the United States through cyberattacks such as “Volt Typhoon,” posing a direct challenge to US security.
10. Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, US–China relations have seen some improvement in recent years. The United States wants to increase dialogue between the militaries of both countries to prevent conflict and maintain stability. However, the US will always remain prepared to protect its interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
China’s goal of national rejuvenation by 2049
The report states that China has emphasized enhancing its military capabilities by 2027. Its aim is to be able to achieve a decisive victory against Taiwan, challenge the United States in nuclear and strategic domains, and exert pressure on other Asian countries. China is considering multiple options to gain control over Taiwan. As part of its objective to achieve national rejuvenation by 2049, China seeks to become a superpower with a military capable of fighting and winning anywhere in the world.
Editorial PerspectiveIs the United States itself doing anything different ? Has the US forgotten that it is one of Pakistan’s largest arms suppliers ? From India’s perspective, the United States, China, and Pakistan are all adversaries. The government must now formulate a strategy aimed at neutralising them. |
